Writer's Block: Singles Awareness Day

Do you love or hate Valentine’s Day?
Do you love or hate Valentine’s Day?

Valentines day is my birthday, so I have always hated it.  People in couples are faking affection for each other.  Single people are mopey and miserable.  Why can't my friends just ignore valentines day and just celebrate my birthday.  I can't tell you how many times people wanted to celebrate my birthday and anti-valentines day at the same time.

Tomorrow I will celebrate my 30th in unspectacular fashion as everyone is busy with their grown up lives.  So I decided to join in on a virtual half marathon run for charity.

I'm terrified of 30.  My 30+ year old friends don't get it.  I guess I'll get over it.

Life is good

Finished my 1st half marathon of the year with my 2nd fastest time ever (2:11:40) on Saturday - Read about my experience at the Smuttynose Paloosa Half marathon on Sometimes I Veg

Made time for my friend Kristina on Sunday.  We spent a very chilly morning at the gym working out then went out for vegan thai food afterwards.

On the blog front, I'm signed up for The SITS girls 31 days to a better blog.  I'm excited to improve my foodblog.

And tomorrow will mark my 100th day of doing at least a mile of walking-running-elliptical a day.  I think I'm averaging over 5 1/2 miles a day.

More books

3) Hoot - Carl Hiaasen
Bullying and parental neglect really rub me the wrong way.  And I think that is what bothered me about this book.  The story was cute and had some nice messages.  The characters were well developed.  Kids trying to prevent the building of a pancake house for environmental reasons is interesting, except for the fact that they resort to Eco-terrorism first and foremost.

4) The Quickening - Michelle Hoover
A tale about depression era families.  I found it a little confusing.  It was well written and engaging but I just couldn't find myself really drawn into the book.

Books read this year

1) Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce

Not bad.  I had a bit of a hard time getting into it at first, but I ended up enjoying the characters and story.  I actually look forward to reading the next book in the series, and might want to read the books in other series that give background on the lands.

2) Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares

I enjoyed this book, it was somewhere between Chick Lit and Young adult.  My only problem with it is that the girls all seem to be with their high school loves.  It seems to be high school sweetheart= true love and need a man to be valuable.  I would have loved to see one of the girls develop in a way that she accepted new people in her grown up life instead of depending on her childhood friends.  Anyways, there is one very good quote from the book.

"Happiness takes as much practice as unhappiness does. It’s by living that you live more. By waiting you wait more. Every waiting day makes your life a little less. Every lonely day makes you a little smaller. Every day you put off your life makes you less capable of living it.” ― Ann Brashares, Sisterhood Everlasting

Christmas blahs

Christmas is here, I should be jumping for joy.

But I'm not.

I don't know if it's because it falls on a weekend, or if it's because I'm too busy.  But this year I just don't really care about Christmas.  My husband and I tend to buy things we need when we need them and buying for others seems more like a hassle

I haven't even set up a tree this year.

I wonder if it's because there are no kiddos in my life.

How I met your Mother

Does it seem cruel to anyone else that Ted on how I met your mother still hasn't found the one after 7.5 seasons of looking for the one.  He's 34 or 35 now.  Couldn't the show carry on once he meets the mother?

Yet another half marathon

I ran a very slow half marathon yesterday.  My ankle is a mess but I did it.
